After a successful launch, the iPhone 3G has dominated the smartphone market in 2008/09. The major draw back has been the mandatory 3 year contract required to purchase an iPhone 3G which has left many people feeling cornered and bullied by big telecom companies. Finally, AT&T in the U.S. has started offering the iPhone 3G contract free. Although it’s a nice gesture, the $299 price tag has been upped – 8GB models for $599 and 16GB ones for $699. AT&T is also requring that all buyers be existing customers, limit one per person.
I hope that Rogers / Fido will soon follow AT&T and give Canadians the opprotunity to pay an exorbitant amount of money for a phone that will be obsolete in 6 months. It’s only fair that we be given a choice without being bound to a 3 year contract!
